As the word indicates - it will be a surgical procedure that will be followed, and inherently all surgical procedures carry some risks and potential complications.

- Some points to keep in mind
- With your first visit to a plastic surgeon ask him/her for any side effects that the surgery may have, and what the long term effect will be.
- Also have a very clear picture of what the surgery will entail, what you would look like directly after the surgery and what special care needs to be taken after your surgical procedure.
- Before the operation, your cosmetic surgeon may want you to stop smoking as smoking interferes with circulation and in particular micro-circulation, which will impact on your healing and having successful plastic surgery.
- Be very forthright with your surgeon about any prescription or recreational drugs that you use, since they can interfere with and cause complications during the operation.
- Aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory medication may cause increased bleeding, and should you be taking any of these, this should be discussed with your cosmetic surgeon well in advance of the operation.
- Discuss pain management and medication before the time as well, so that you know exactly what to expect after the operation.
- Pre, and post-operative instruction by the plastic surgeon must be followed to the letter, and if any directive seems frivolous and unnecessary, rather discuss it with the surgeon than to ignore it, since it may impact on the final results achieved through the surgical procedure.
