What is fibroblast

The main function of fibroblasts is to maintain the structural integrity of connective tissue by continuously secreting precursors of the extracellular matrix and is a cell from which connective tissue develops and is capable of forming collagen fibers.

The connective tissue of the dermis is made up of collagen and elastin fibers immersed in glycosaminoglycans. All three components have their origin in the fibroblasts.
