This fruit contains the enzyme papain, which has wonderful exfoliating properties - removing dead skin, and specifically damaged skin. REF 505 & 506

This particular property of papaya has extensively been used in medical conditions to debribe the skin from abnormal skin growth and skin diseases.

Another use of the papaya juice is to help reduce and attenuate freckles or brown spots due to exposure to sunlight, smoothing the skin and creating a healthier looking skin.

It has been used and researched extensively for the positive effect it has on skin ulcers, REF 507, 508 & 509 as well as helping patients with severe burn wounds. REF 510

Not only does it have great antibacterial and wound healing abilities REF 511 but is also extensively used in wound care REF 512 & 513 and is of particular help in removing damaged and dead skin. REF 514 - 516

All of the positive effects listed above are attributed to the enzymatic action of the papain.

Description of papaya clear up skin problems

It is a single stemmed small tree with a thick fleshy trunk and large lobed leaves clustered at the top. Male and female flowers are borne on separate trees. The fruit are large and initially green – then turning bright orange upon ripening. The fruits are used and processed to obtain a latex, from which the papain is extracted.

Papain is a proteolytic enzyme which is extracted from the latex papayotin and also contains the enzymes chymopapain A and B and papaya peptidase.
