Pumice is volcanic rock formed during explosive eruptions and resembles a sponge, because it consists of a network of gas bubbles frozen amidst fragile volcanic components and minerals. All types of magma (basalt, andesite, dacite, and rhyolite) will form pumice.
It may sound a bit strange to use rocks in beauty products, but the pumice used by us in our foot scrub is finely ground into micro-fine granules of regular and even grit size to provide an excellent exfoliating medium to remove dead and rough skin, leaving the skin silky smooth.
The use of pumice in body scrubs is not new, and it has been included in scrubs since 1,000 years BC.
Pumice is a substance of volcanic origin consisting chiefly of complex silicates of aluminum and alkali metals and is classified as an inorganic. Pumice is used as an abrasive and a bulking agent.
